“I celebrated my 2 year anniversary at iNSiDE Out STUDIO barre in February 2016 and I have been pretty much addicted to the workout since I sweated through my first class. Over the years, I have joined virtually every bigger fitness facility in the city and although I would be very enthusiastic for a couple of months, inevitably I always stopped going. I wasn’t born with the slim gene or an overactive metabolism, so exercise is really a must in order to maintain a healthy weight. Traditional cardio exercises have been difficult since I was diagnosed with asthma/borderline COPD in my early 20’s and now that I am getting older, exercise is even more important so that I will be able to stay active for the next 40 years. For many reasons, doing these classes has become a pleasant necessity for me.

The classes at iNSiDE Out are extremely challenging and yet fun at the same time. The instructors are all very knowledgeable and will ensure that you are in the right position to get the maximum results. It is a complete body workout which is a combination of isometrics, pilates and yoga, so although you work your muscles to the point of exhaustion there is just the right amount of stretching for recovery. The segments of the class are just the right length of time to end when you think you can’t take it anymore and after your first class you will be thinking that you won’t be walking right the next day but the structure of the class is designed so that each guest can go at their own pace – no matter what your fitness level you are guaranteed to get a great workout!

When I first started going to these classes, I would jokingly say that my favourite part of the class was when the curtains would open but the reality is that I can’t imagine this not being a part of my fitness routine for the rest of my life. I really love it and the effect that it is having on my body and in turn my long-term attitude to optimal health. My posture has vastly improved and I no longer have lower back problems. My clothes all fit more loosely since I have gone down a full pant size and I am overall a leaner and stronger person.

Thanks to Janine and Greg and all of the iNSiDE Out STUDiO staff for making working out a truly enjoyable and motivating experience! So far, I have attended 167 classes and I look forward to getting my “200 Club” band soon.”

In her own words:

“As I approached 55, with all of my creaking, snapping and painful joints, I needed a way to exercise that was low-impact while still providing a full-body workout. I had been doing power pump and boot camp twice a week, and riding (dressage) once a week. It kept me in pretty reasonable shape, but I was beating up my joints. I lost the use of the horse I was riding, and had an ankle injury that took a long time to heal, so I lost a good deal of fitness. My wife had been going to iNSiDE Out for about a month and suggested I give it a try.

I had my first class in February and have been trying to get in 3 visits a week ever since. I see real improvement in my flexibility, strength and stamina. What I particularly like about STUDiO barre classes are the instructors! They are all diligent about correcting your form and encouraging you to work to your fullest ability. I also like that the workout is all about what you put into it. If you are having a lower-energy day, you can still get great benefit from the hour by giving all you have that day, and no one is watching that you aren’t lifting the same weight you did yesterday, they’re just making sure you are doing it all properly and reminding you to give all you have.”

Cheers!

Meet Valerie and Vanessa Labelle!

Our September 2015 Guests of the Month (sister tuckers!!)

“Our love story with barre started a year and a half ago. We have always been active, but we were looking for a way to push ourselves and to improve our flexibility. Choosing to come to iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre was seriously one of the best decisions we have ever made. Before STUDiO barre, we had constant back and hip pain, and we could barely touch our toes. As full-time students at uOttawa for the past 7 years, our days were long, hectic, and usually required us to sit through long lectures, which sure didn’t help our cause. Since we started barre, our flexibility, balance, and strength have dramatically improved. The focus on posture has also been a huge help and has made us more conscious of our body. The best part: since we started barre, we have been pain free!

We won’t sugar coat it: iNSiDE Out STUDiO’s classes are extremely challenging. Every muscle in your body will shake like you never thought was humanly possible (one word: WaterSki). But that’s what we love about it! Every class pushes you to outdo yourself and to be stronger, physically AND mentally, than you thought you ever could be.

But what we especially love about iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre is the positive impact it has on our spirit. It truly feels like we are part of a family. The genuinely friendly staff and highly competent instructors make sure that as soon as you walk in the gorgeously designed studio, you feel an instant relief of stress. Everyone at iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre motivates us to live a healthier, happier, and more balanced life. We also started bringing our mom, who has bad arthritis and asthma, because we know that barre is exactly the type of workout she needs to stay active. As the proverb says: “The best life is the kind that keeps you on your toes.”

“I have suffered with back problems for over 30 years. In my 40s, it was determined that I had significant degeneration in two areas of my spine along with some osteopenia. While I have always remained active, my back was constantly a source of concern.

I have been participating in your classes for approximately three years. Over that time, I have learned to make minor adaptations to some of the exercises and have found your staff very instructive in doing so. Initially, I was certain that I would need to go straight home from class and take an anti-inflammatory for back pain. It didn’t take long for me to discover that no anti-inflammatories were necessary. While all my other muscles were crying out in pain, my back was quite fine!

Three years down the road, and approaching the age of 64, I can say that my back is stronger now than it has been in 30 years. I feel very encouraged by this and quite certain that I’ll be able to enjoy biking, downhill skiing, travelling, and other active pursuits to a ripe old age!

I’m very appreciative of iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre and all of the competent instructors.

A special thanks to you, Janine and Greg.”

“As a former athlete in a number of sports including professional football I have done some form of training since I was 14 years old. Over the years I have tried a number of “exercise programs” from free weights, yoga and others. In STUDiO barre I have finally found a system that helps me with sore back, sore elbow as well as other injuries. I love the workout and every instructor I have had the pleasure of having has been helping me to learn how to do the exercises properly without hurting myself. My back is no longer sore all the time and my flexibility is improving however I have a ways to go. My hour invested in STUDiO barre is yielding maximum results. I urge all my friends/clients to try iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre because I am confident they will find it to be a great atmosphere with fabulous people. Greg and Janine are fabulous people and their offering is one I would encourage you to at least try and tell me your thoughts afterward.” – Milan Topolovec, President & CEO of TK Financial

For anyone who knows Christa at the STUDiO she always works hard and has a smile on her face. Christa your positive energy radiates when you walk in the STUDiO. You’re always super friendly and helpful to anyone around. Thank you for being an amazing guest and choosing iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre as your choice of fitness.

Here’s Christa’s story:

“I love to run. My job is pretty high stress, and running just takes that stress and stomps it out. This might seem like a weird introduction to my love of barre, but after early knee arthritis took running away from me, I thought I would never find anything that kept me in shape while acting as a total stress release. Then I found iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre.

I still remember my first class. When leaving, I thought I wouldn’t be able to walk for a week. But the prolonged stretching during and after class did the trick – I was sore but able. And I was hooked. I started coming regularly. Before I knew it, I was working out at the barre almost daily. I (as well as everyone else) began to notice the expected benefits – weight loss with toned lean muscle. But I also noticed some extremely unexpected benefits. My flexibility was through the roof. Before starting barre, I could barely touch my toes. Now? It’s crazy! And even more unexpectedly, my arthritic knee pain has pretty much disappeared. As for stress-relief – from the moment I walk into the studio, I can feel myself relax. After an hour of burning, shaking muscles, that final stretch leaves me calm, collected, and ready to face the world again.” – Christa Dakin

Rachel we are honoured you miss us so much. We are sad that you have moved away but your story about STUDiO barre is here and we are so happy to have played such a big role in you falling in love with exercise. So many of us have struggled to find & stick with a workout we LOVE and WANT to take part in. Exercising should be enjoyable. We are happy to have you as a part of our extended iNSiDE Out family.

Here’s Rachel’s story:

“When I first heard of iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre it was through a friend who was an avid fan of the workout. She assured me that even though I hadn’t worked out in a long time I wouldn’t die my first class, and to just go along at my own pace.

Well, I did almost die my first class. I remember finishing the warm up and being ready to drop, but I pushed through and at the end of the class purchased the unlimited new client special. However, it wasn’t until a few months later that I actually became addicted to the workout and tried to go at least 3 days a week, or more if i could. The only reason I no longer go religiously is I have moved out of the city, and trust me, my first week away from barre has been tough.

As a bigger girl, I have always been self conscious going to a gym and working out. I sweat a lot and make awkward faces, and I’ve always felt judgement from all the gorgeous bodies at the gym. But I can honestly say I NEVER felt this way at iNSiDE Out. All of the instructors have been absolutely amazing at pushing me to my limit and making sure that I get the best workout possible. I have tried to introduce this workout to as many people as possible, I even brought my mom once, and everyone who has tried it has immediately become hooked.

It’s not just the workout that kept me coming back, but also the great atmosphere and the relationships I developed. While every instructor brings their own unique style to the class and I love them all, I have to say that Andrea was definitely my favourite instructor and i will really miss her sense of humour and the way she kicked my butt. I can honestly say I have never felt this way about an exercise regimen before, and I am truly missing coming to the studio.

I’d like to thank everyone at iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre for helping to build my confidence, making sure I got a great workout and above all for always making me feel welcome and valued. I would recommend this workout to absolutely everyone, and you will notice results after just a few classes. Trust me, if I can fall in love with an exercise class, you know that it’s totally worth your money. My only regret is that it took me so long to discover this STUDiO.

Hope everyone is doing well, and can’t wait to come back and visit!!””

He is a very special guest to us at iNSiDE Out. When we opened our doors for the first time in Jan 2012, Kevin was the VERY FIRST person to walk in. As eager as we were to bring STUDiO barre to Ottawa, we were grateful that Kevin was just as excited and open to discovering what STUDiO barre is all about.
Here is Kevin’s story:

“I have been going to iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre since it opened in January of 2012. I was eager to start the transformation of my body and was so happy the STUDiO was right around the corner from my house. I don’t know about you folks but being within walking distance of your workout studio is key to keeping on track. If you have to brush down the car in the winter or drive any distance it can be easy to just not go.

I signed up for the 8:30am class and showed up to start my first class. Janine and Greg were both there to meet me and to my surprise I was the only participant. I thought “uh oh” I can’t hide behind others and try and fake my way through this. You see I actually thought I was in shape.

Janine taught me that first class and it was tough. She could see I was going to be in a world of pain. However, I returned for another class and again I was the only participant in Janine’s class. The third time Greg taught me and I was beginning to think that this was cool “private lessons” but not so cool if they can’t make a go of it. I loved the workout so much that I wanted to be sure it would work for them. Happily it has and I am a regular. My goal is to go every other day. Sometimes I skip a day when my body is screaming for rest, but otherwise I stick to the routine.

I am very very happy with the results. No other workout that I have done has ever gotten me results like STUDiO barre. I believe it is because the instructors push you to your limit, which the body needs in order to transform itself. The other day I got in the hot tub with some friends and they asked me how I stay so fit. I feel pretty good when I get a comment like that and I know where to direct them so that they too can get fit.

Oh and by the way, my golf game has improved tremendously. It may just be wisdom has taught me to play the correct shot but you can also make that good shot because your body is fit. My sons are avid golfers and will one day be better than me – but not yet thanks to iNSiDE Out.”

We’ve been going to iNSiDE Out since it first opened. Living in the neighbourhood, we curiously watched as the STUDiO was being built, sneaking glimpses into the space, wondering what this ‘iNSiDE Out’ was. Little did we know that we’d be spending hours in that very same space every week.

We weren’t sure what to expect that first class, but we were hooked early on. From day 1, Janine and Greg were super welcoming. At first they’d be running the studio and doing all the teaching, working long hours, but always with a smile. For Val, who’s been doing yoga for years, it was something new that combined multiple workouts in one succinct one-hour class. For Sean, it was a nice compliment to his martial arts background and he was quickly surprised by the soreness he would feel the next day despite using light weights and small isometric movements.
We loved the beautiful STUDiO, the instructors, the desk staff and feeling part of the iNSiDE Out family. We got to know the instructors along the way and each had their own unique style while still giving us the great workout we loved.

It’s nice for both of us to be able to work out together and to motivate each other. For Sean, who works as an engineer and sits at a desk for most of the day, the focus on posture in class has been very positive. Although sometimes having to be coaxed to go to class by his loving wife, he never regrets a workout and has been known to go to class on his own at times as well. For Val, her workouts at iNSiDE Out helped get her through her medical training. After a long day at the hospital or after catching some sleep post-call, a ‪#‎barre‬ ‪#‎workout‬ was always a great stress reliever. Now as a family doctor interested in healthy living, nutrition and prevention, she likes to practice what she preaches to her patients and finds that going to classes a few times per week is a great way to help her stay fit and healthy.

Thank you to the whole iNSiDE Out family for your warmth, positivity and motivation!”
